Retreat from reality at Waldhaus Flims Mountain Resort & Spa

Star of Paolo Sorrentino's latest film 'Youth', the Waldhaus Flims Mountain Resort & Spa is nothing if not an idyllic retreat from reality. It's a palatial affair concealed by dense woodland above Flims in the Swiss canton of Graubünden, and comprises a simply divine five-star hotel, as well as two four-stars and one of the best spas I have found in Switzerland. The indoor swimming pool is contained within a slick glass cube, which gives onto the resort's Art Nouveau pavilion and beyond, the dramatic Flimserstein cliff face, while thoughtful touches in the spa include a snacks bar with fresh tea and dried fruit and nuts.

In 'Youth', it sets a perfect scene for main character Michael Caine, who is holidaying at an Alpine health retreat with his best friend. The cast stayed at the resort during filming, and a marketing campaign revealing which rooms were used is said to be in the offing. Go there if you need escapism, a romantic break, a hiking holiday with a luxurious bed to sink into at the end of the day, or simply fancy whiling away hours in the heated outdoor pool-with-a-view. Here is my review of the Waldhaus for The Telegraph... as well as some snaps from our visit.
